A Piece of Miss World History
Gabriella Brum reigned as Miss World for all of 18 hours. Since we will be discussing a lot about Miss World Philippines 2014 in the days and weeks ahead, allow me to bring you back to 1980 – one of the most controversial editions of the London-based pageant.
Technically, German reps have been proclaimed Miss World winner twice. Back in 1956, Petra Schürmann was the very first from her country to do so. And 24 years later, another German would follow suit in the person of Gabriella Brum. But only 18 hours into her reign as Miss World 1980, she resigned stating that her boyfriend disapproved of the victory, as well as being pressured by the news media.
