You will really get curious with the title especially if you are one of those individuals who want to be objective as much as possible almost in any aspect of your life. All the more that you want a very authoritative book on near death experience.  There have been many books written on this subject but somehow it did not convinced people that there is such a thing as heaven and hell or  life after death.  Probably, most of the books were written by normal people and lack the academic or scientific background to say that what they had experience were indeed the ultimate proof that there is indeed life after death.  Or that there is no question about the reality of experiencing heaven during near death experience.

In this book, Eben Alexander a neurosurgeon, believed that he has the qualification to tell to other people that his experience was indeed real and that people should believe him because he has the right qualifications; academically and scientifically.  These are the two factors that need to be analyze well in order to say that we believe in him.  One of the best things that you can say about this book that it is written in a very conversational manner.  You wouldn’t think that the author was a neurosurgeon and instead based on the terms, words, and construction of the book you thought that he is just an average Joe who just had a one of a kind experience.

The title of the book would indeed spark interest because of the qualification and background of the author.  But ,reading the whole book, you will feel something is totally missing.  Yes, it has all the ingredients of a good non-fiction book; interesting topic, cleverly written, simple narrative, good plot and conflict with believable resolution.  However, if you are looking for evidences about near death experience being real and unquestionably true, you will end up disappointed.  The book is written in a manner that the author realized something very significant while at deepest darkest hour.

Clearly, the conclusion about consciousness and being in one with other experiences when it comes to near death experience is nothing to be proud of in this book.  The author just relied on tried and tired technique on writing a non-fiction book and at the same time create an thrilling screenplay to hold the interest of the reader.  There is nothing new on this about this kind of topic.  But, you can tap the author’s shoulder and tell him that this is a good effort on explaining and describing that there is indeed such a thing as near death experience.

The proof that he is talking about were not exactly proofs but rather a summation on why it should be considered as proofs.  As a whole, the book is engaging if you want to read a Nicholas Spark type of book about near death experience.
